About Dr. Gorman

Dr. GormanIn my psychotherapy practice, I use a psychodynamic approach to help people find relief from anxiety, depression, various forms of trauma, difficulties in relationships, life transitions and career decisions.

Prior to opening my private practice, I worked for many years in the non-profit sector. This experience gave me a firsthand perspective on the contemporary workplace. Today I often draw on this understanding of workplace issues to help people address emotional and psychological problems that arise, or are exacerbated, on the job.

My post-doctoral training involved working with patients who were suffering from mood disorders, psychotic disorders, addictions, eating disorders and relationship concerns. My earlier clinical training at the University of California, San Francisco Mount Zion Outpatient Department of Psychiatry, involved working with low-income patients.

Early in my career, I gained a solid base of experience in alcohol and drug abuse treatment while working at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco.

I was awarded my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Professional School of Psychology in San Francisco and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the New School in New York. I am a member of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Division of Psychoanalysis, the San Francisco Psychological Association, the California Psychology Association and the Friends of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Association.
